MatlinPatterson, a private equity firm focused on control distressed investing, was looking for an office space that conveyed their seriousness and integrity all while defining them with their industry. There was a preference for strong site lines that created an environment free of hierarchy. Ted Moudis Associates generated a 20,000 square foot office that incorporated a guest lounge, two large boardrooms, open plan workstations, perimeter private offices and a large residential kitchen. MatlinPatterson’s objectives were accomplished through careful selection of understated materials, furnishing and finishes such as woven carpets, marble, lacquered walnut paneling, mohair and leather. Elegant and simple details, utilizzing classic materials like lacquered wood and polished marbles were also used throughout. In order to maintain seamless interaction between all divisions of the company, an open layout, from north to south, was created to maximize site lines. A large kitchen and lounge spaces were incorporated to foster communication. The implementation od details, such as video conferencing and electrified glazing, in combination with residential touches such as draperies, pendant fixtures and lounge areas were created in order to utilize the current infrastructure and technology.
